Radiation-free by design
We built this center around a technology that uses no X-rays. That means patients who need frequent monitoring can be scanned without cumulative radiation concerns.
Radiation-free bone density testing · Serving New York & New Jersey
833-454-7263An imaging center built around one idea: measuring your bone health shouldn't mean exposing you to radiation.
We perform the Echolight REMS bone density scan — an FDA-cleared, ultrasound-based technology that evaluates both bone density and bone quality, with no X-rays at any point.
For decades, DEXA has been the standard way to measure bone density — and it works well for many people. But it carries a trade-off that bothered us: it uses X-ray radiation, and the CDC's own guidance is ALARA, as low as reasonably achievable. If a radiation-free method delivers comparable accuracy, why wouldn't you use it?
REMS — Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry — is that method. It uses ultrasound and radiofrequency signals to measure the same central sites as DEXA, the lumbar spine and femoral neck, and reports results in the same units your physician already reads: bone mineral density, T-score, and Z-score.
It also does something DEXA cannot. Alongside your density reading, REMS produces the Fragility Score — a measure of bone quality derived from the ultrasound signal itself. Published research has found it predicts fracture risk more accurately than density alone.
REMS is validated, not experimental. It received FDA 510(k) clearance in October 2018, and has been studied in a multicenter trial of 1,914 women and a five-year follow-up of nearly 2,000 patients. That research is available on our research library page.

Many of our patients are over 50 and reading without glasses is a chore. Clear type, plain language, and no jargon — that's deliberate, not an afterthought.
Density alone misses a large share of people who go on to fracture. We report the Fragility Score alongside your T-score so your physician sees the fuller picture.
Free on-site parking, step-free ground-floor access, and about 15 minutes from arrival to done. No fasting, no preparation, no needles.
A REMS bone density scan takes about 15 minutes, uses no radiation, and gives you and your physician a clear picture of your bone health. Serving patients across New York and New Jersey.
